Orientation - August 22 5:00-6:00

Make sure to visit me and our classroom on August 22 at 5:00-6:00.  This is a great time to explore the classroom and bring your school supplies for the first day of school.  I will also have some paper work for parents to fill out before the first day of school.

You can also learn more about me and the classroom at my website listed below:

Don't forget to keep searching for our monarch caterpillars - they love milkweed so you might be able to find some eggs under the leaves.  They are white and very small.  Bring them to school so we can learn more about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly!

See you soon!

I-Pad in the Classroom

We have been using our new i-pad in the classroom for math stations, daily five word work stations, and guided reading.  It is amazing what you can do on the i-pad.  The students were very excited to use it during our Clock stations to practice telling time to the hour and half hour.

Ireland Presentation

On Wednesday, the day before St. Patrick's Day, the students listened to Mrs. Burchfield and Mrs. Moore share some information about Ireland.  Both of these first grade teachers are Irish and enjoyed sharing some of their Irish heritage with the first graders.  The students learned about Ireland, St. Patrick as well as some traditions of Ireland.  We also learned why you get pinched if you DON'T wear GREEN on St. Patrick's Day!

What is MAGNETIC in our room?

On Friday, the students explored our room to find items that were magnetic.  The students made some good observations and asked some great questions.  Why would one magnet work on an object and the other ones wouldn't?  Why would certain metals attract to our magnets and others wouldn't?  Ask your child what they observed or learned from our experiment!
